Sacramento Citizen Corps CouncilSurvivors

Sacramento Citizen Corps, aka CVAID Sacramento is a grass roots initiative that supports all valley CERT members and Community Volunteers Active In Disasters by engaging the whole community in collaborative integrated community planning and capacity building.

Sacramento Citizen Corps Council is one of 1,200 councils in the United States. "Following the events of September 11, Citizen Corps was launched as a grass roots strategy to strengthen community safety and preparedness through increased civic participation... Citizen Corps is a program administered by FEMA within the department of Homeland Security and is implemented locally," per page three of the 2011 CERT Training Manual.

Our service area includes Placer, Yolo, and Sacramento counties, and we welcome your involvement. We encourage all members of the public to learn about fire safety and take the basic CERT training class, which is a free emergency preparedness class put together by FEMA, and is the national standard for civilian community preparedness training.

Core Objectives of Citizen Corps

      • Engage the whole community in collaborative integrated community planning and capacity building
      • Integration of community resources
      • Outreach and encouraging preparedness education and training
      • Strengthen emergency communications
      • Encourage preparedness drills and exercises
      • Strengthen volunteer programs

Information, Communication, and Collaboration are vital to Effective Emergency Response, and CVAID was created with the particular goal of supporting volunteers in these three areas.
